Avoid the company at all costs

Submitted by randy34567 - 9/10/2020

I purchased the unit last week online and the fan is not powerful enough so I want to return the unit. I have called LG for 4 days now each morning to get a return authorization and cannot get through. I have been transferred hung-up on and am horrified regarding their treatment of customers. Do not purchase. business model. I will not purchase this product again and think about it yourself.

Inverter technology in a window unit? Amazing

Submitted by Oahu_built - 8/29/2020

I bought one of these almost a year ago which was when I started seeing it available online. It cost much more than other traditional 14K BTU window units but I was intrigued by the dual inverter technology. Before our house got redone we had window units. Now every room has a split AC unit. My aunt wanted an AC for her house large living room so I ordered one of these LGs. I took a gamble and hoped the price difference was worth it. Zero regrets and no problems with it Its SO quiet -- Id say louder than a split AC but a good bit quieter than a traditional window unit. You can easily watch TV or have a conversation with this on. The 14K unit is HUGE. Youll want to think about installation before hand. It has a removable sleeve which gets installed first then the insides slide into that. I had to put something outside to support the unit. The box is really big so that was a clue but definitely worth the effort. My aunts house has high ceiling and its hot and humid most days here so she runs it often. I added a supplemental 8K BTU unit for super hot days because this 14K unit is on the small side for the area the larger dual inverter unit wouldve been perfect but we didnt want to install a 220V line. Otherwise this 14K on its own easily takes the edge off of hot days and certainly gets rid of humidity which makes things much more comfortable even if its not an igloo. Inverter units are much more efficient and that was also a selling point. I would certainly spend the extra $ and purchase one of these again in the future.

Needs a 20 amp dedicated circuit

Submitted by dcwalker30 - 8/25/2020

I bought this unit for my garage. The outer shell made install a breeze and it cools the space wonderfully. Unfortunately I had some trouble with this unit at first. I plugged it into a 15 amp GFCI outlet and it tripped the GFCI as soon as the compressor kicked on. I tried this on 2 other 15a GFCIs around the garage to confirm it wasnt the outlet itself but it tripped every 15a GFCI that I tried. The kitchen GFCIs are all 20a so I ran a 12 AWG extension cord to a kitchen outlet and the unit ran just fine. Unfortunately I couldnt just swap a 15a GFCI for a 20a because the garage was pulled with 14 AWG romex and a 20a requires 12 AWG. At this point I contacted an electrician to get their input. They were able to add a dedicated 20a single outlet circuit and the unit now operates normally. The electrician highly advised *against* placing a unit like this on a GFCI outlet which is pretty much impossible in a standard garage. Ive had a smaller window unit and never had a power issue like this so this was a new one for me. Googling didnt help much so I hope someone reads this review and it saves them some time and frustration 1 star removed for the time lost figuring out how to get it to work

After two weeks of operation we got Error Code CH 26 *seized compressor. Installing the unit cost more the the purchase price so repairing it wont be trivial at all. Cant get a human from LG to talk to. Customer support chat kept asking the same questions then stopped answering altogether.

Definitely a worthy investment

If you need superior cooling power but dont have access or capabilities to a 240v outlet this is definitely the one to go for. Noise level is similar to a vornado fan on 1. Super efficient effective. Wifi capabilities are a helpful feature especially if you want to cool the house off before you get home. I personally leave mine set at 72 never touch it. House is always comfortably cool.

Quiet and cold but not for all windows

Submitted by AlKim - 7/23/2020

We just got this less than a week ago so I cant speak about longevity or power usage. We checked the window requirements before purchasing but I didnt see anything about not installing on a window that is flush with an outside wall. We havent had issues with our one smaller window unit in our guest bedroom. Our other air conditioners have been portable units. We had not been able to get the house below 84 degrees when it was 90 degrees outside so we decided to get a larger window unit for the main upstairs living area. This has been able to keep the house at 70-75 degrees on the 90-95 degree days despite losing some of the cooling to the basement of our split level. We have even been cooking baking running the dishwasher and the washer and dryer. We werent able to do anything that would make the house hotter or more humid with the portable unit. It is still a little undersized for our house but we didnt have the right outlet for a larger unit and we were going to install the portable one downstairs if we needed to. This unit is about 54 dB when it is running on high. Our portable one would be about 69dB. We wanted to get a smaller one of these for our bedroom but cant find one. My main issue is that it cannot be installed easily on a window that is flush with the exterior of the house. We were putting it in a window over our deck so we were able to build a table to support the weight. The sill brackets didnt have enough sill to support them. Our final windows are a bit raised off the inside sill so we would have needed to put in a piece of wood to screw it into that sill. The second issue was that the instructions to put on the front of the unit didnt warn us about threading the vent lever through the front until after it said to snap the panel on to the frame. We almost lost that lever. There were a bunch of other warnings and stickers giving instructions but we were going step by step and snapped on the front then read the next part about making sure the lever was threaded right before snapping. We also had an issue with putting a hole in one of the side panels as we were screwing it onto the unit. Overall we were able to get it installed and the seals are pretty tight. Just be aware that it might be an issue for windows that are higher off the ground.

Nice A/C unit

Submitted by Val4 - 7/21/2020

Ive been using it for about a month and seems to be holding its own. Generally gets to temperature in a pretty quick amount of time and retains temperature as needed. It is definitely quiet compared to my old A/C which is useful since I work from home and it is only about 8 feet from my desk. Havent tried the Smart capability yet but will be doing so soon.

Clean modern design

Submitted by 772Patricia - 7/20/2020

I bought is AC a month ago. When purchasing I did my research on other window units. After reading reviews I decided on this LG model. I am happy I did. Its so quiet you wont even notice you have a window unit. It keeps my mobile home cool and comfortable. I have it in my living room...when I have guests over they stop and check out my AC and ask me where I bought it and how much it cost. I get complimented on how nice it looks and its cooling capability It also comes with a remote and a little storage bin for the remote...as you can see in the picture I posted my husband placed it on the wall for easy access way out of my toddlers reach. Moreover I have had this AC running day and night since I purchased it early June 2020. I only had to clean the filter 3 times since then. And the filter isnt even that dirty compared to other brands Ive owned in the past. This LG AC definitely is better than all the other models out there you name it Ive tried them all All in all I always tend to stay with LG and their products. They truly are the real deal In every aspect Thanks LG for another great product

Works great as long as not on gfci

Submitted by Clsmooth - 7/16/2020

DOES ANYBODY HAVE THIS SUCCESSFULLY INSTALLED ON A GFCI OUTLET? I have a dedicated 15amp circuit for this ac and every time compressor kicks on it trips the gfci outlet it is plugged in to. I replaced the gfci with a brand new one and same thing happens. Its not tripping because of circuit overload. When i replaced with standard 3 prong 15 amp outlet it runs just fine and does NOT trip the breaker at the panel. Same with two other circuits Ive cleared to test. Ive had other non dual inverters plugged into this gfci outlet and doesnt trip the gfci. This leads me to believe there is some voltage being leaked to the ground which is causing it to trip. Im thinking possible due to dual inverter. Is this standard operation or possible malfunction? Otherwise when ac is plugged into standard 3 prong outlet it works wonderfully. Im used to old brown acs this thing cools awesomely and it 75 more quiet. Install was a bit tricky but got in done with one of the not so universal brackets. 3 stars until I can confirm its longevity and that the gfci issue is not an issue with the air conditioner.

Quiet AC Powerful Convenient control with app.

Submitted by HappySatisfiedCustomer - 7/16/2020

I did my research and I love this 14000 BTU Dual Inverter AC. Quiet which doesnt interfere with volume when watching TV. Gets really cold. My Wifi is near AC and I get excellent control of AC with app. I am able to turn it off and on and adjust temperature wherever I am I have no problem with app. Its so convenient to shut down Living room AC from bedroom at nights with app or turn it on before I get home. One of the best purchase I have made. Bought from Home Depot in NYC and it was the last one in the store Owned it now for 2.5 months.

Life is Good with LG

Submitted by mickeyprint - 7/11/2020

Purchased this unit yesterday as we had our record 8th consecutive day with over 90 degrees and very high humidity of around 85. My son and I installed this unit in about an hour. Probably could be quicker but we took our time and also installed an additional support brace. The room the unit was installed in measures 15 x 15. This is an old craftsman type home built in 1900 so insulation is not the greatest and open floor plan makes the entire cooling space much larger than unit is rated for. The living room is about 20 x 40 and the kitchen with laundry room off of it is about 30 x 15. Add in a small mudroom of about 6 x 8 and thats a lot of sq footage. Temp in the house before turning unit on was 88.6 degrees. Within 3 hours of QUIET running the temp had dropped to 77.5 in the installed room and about 3 degrees higher in all the other above mentioned rooms. By 11 pm the entire set of rooms was around 75. There is the added benefit of the unit removing about 3.5 pints of moisture per hour. We are completely happy with the performance ease of install and ease of operation with this A/C. Having loaded the old monster units into windows back in the 80s 90s this unit weighs in at a manageable 97lbs. I would purchase this unit again and certainly have no restrictions in recommending it to any of my family or friends. It absolutely performs as LG claims and in the case of sq footage rated to cool Outperforms in every way

Two weeks of use

Submitted by kraM1994 - 7/8/2020

Installed as per manufacturer instructions and operated normally for two weeks. From June 15 - July 1 in the northeast. 14k window AC for a 650 sq foot room and worked just fine. Then power to the unit was gone and a beeping noise followed. Troubleshooting manual has no symptoms check for the beeping and no power but I followed everything else mentioned to reset unit. Nothing worked and service request sent to LG. They link you up with closest appliance repair company and you schedule from there. Horrible service from that technician but thats a story and review for another website. All in all Im stuck now trying to exchange/return to the dealer while we approach the hottest part of the summer.

Great AC performance but ...

Submitted by realcapo - 7/7/2020

I purposely bought this because of the Alexa integration but that has been a nightmare. The ThinQ alexa skill seems to be the culprit as the ThinQ app works fine independently but Alexa could just not find the device using the skill. Its a letdown when you want to have this on a routine with your other smart devices. Up to this point I have not resolved that issue and now on an temporary fix Thinq complete. Youll have to say Alexa Tell LG to do this etc etc instead of just saying Alexa turn on AC or whatever name you have it on the app. As far as performance goes its very good but take into consideration the Alexa integration problems if thats what you are after.

Cools Very Well Get a Mini Split if You Can

Submitted by PuttingInMyReview - 6/30/2020

So I bought this to test out in our master suite for nighttime cooler temperatures. Its about 320 sq ft. Being a dual inverter I was firstly disappointed by a few things because Ive only used mini splits not a window unit. The fan motor is attached to the inside and outside fans and has only 3 speeds. I thought this was a bummer because the awesome thing about mini splits is their ability to ramp the fan down when it can. So you just pick a fan speed high med or low and it stays there. Then the compressor changes to accommodate the load. After the initial dual inverter disappointment expectations of the slightly loud fan I noticed how awesome this unit works. It works best if you just set it at a temperature and leave it. It ramps up cools off very quickly then ramps down to a lower compressor speed and coasts along maintaining the room right where it is set. I know I got a unit that is a little bigger than I needed but the 9500 btu model was out of stock everywhere. But it is able to ramp down to a low enough BTU that it stays running almost all the time. The extra btu is nice because it has been really hot and it supplements the central A/C and keeps the house cooler. So overall this unit works really well. The energy savings mode does have a noise problem when the pan is full of water. You get water sloshing around that can wake you up. The sleep mode is extremely quiet but useless because a 4 degree rise in temperature is way to much and I wake up sweating. LG please make sleep mode hold the temperature and keep the unit on instead of having it on a timer. So long as you use the regular modes youre good to go. While running the slinger fan is quiet inside and you just hear a constant air noise easy to sleep with. Dont get me wrong this unit works and is very powerful but it can for sure use some future upgrades. I imagine they needed to cut costs somewhere. Ive just never lived with a window unit and Im comparing it to a mini split. It works for our rental house where I cannot permanently install something.

Game Changer

Submitted by Thegreenenergyguy - 6/29/2020

I purchased the 18k and 22k Dual Inverter AC units and had them installed in my wall. These are game changers for window/wall mounted AC units. They not only keep the entire first floor dry and cool on Long Island but they are silent compared to aby other units in the market. The 22k unit is above my kitchen table and cools a large family room all with high ceilings. I used to turn the AC off so we could talk during dinner or watch a movie. Those days are gone I cant speak long term as these are new but I will update this review gong forward. So far GAME CHANGER

Satisfied Buyer

Submitted by RubenR - 6/9/2020

I wanted a unit to cool my entire 2nd floor apartment which is 57ft in length and just under 500sq ft. I am very happy with the cooling power as it does in fact cool the entire apartment on 90 degree plus days and if I use a fan in the hallway or dining room it gets even cooler. I had some trouble setting up the wifi initially it took longer than I liked and I had to restart the process several times to successfully connect it to my google home network. However I have not had one issue with functionality once I got it connected. And it impresses my friends when I say ok google turn on the air conditioner and set to 70 degrees. I can even use my car or the LG App to fully operate the unit when Im not at home. I LOVE THE SMART FEATURES. Its a heavy unit but I was able to install it alone because the outer cabinet separates from the internal parts which allowed me to secure the light cabinet to the window sill and frame. Then all I did was slide the unit into the cabinet and Im impressed at how secure and solid the install is. VERY QUIET unit. It does not sound or operate like a traditional a/c. Blower is smooth and you almost cant tell the difference from cool and fan only modes. Havent got my first energy bill so cant comment on efficiency. Definitely happy with the product.

Great unit wifi function is awful

Submitted by Jim_9 - 5/18/2020

Just installed this yesterday. Installation manual is actually quite detailed and helpful. The unit looks really good installed - modern and clean. Havent tested the cooling output yet but Im confident it is up to the task. One of the main reasons I decided to buy this unit was the Wifi capability. We have Wifi bulbs and smart speakers all over the house but this is by far the worst Wifi functionality Ive ever experienced. Connecting the unit is a chore. Once you get that out of the way when you tap on the unit in the app it says it is disconnected from the network. You can turn only turn the unit on and off from the app. I can already do this with the remote control. No settings changes or adjustments are available. Such a useless feature.

Super quiet.

Submitted by MWS4591 - 3/26/2020

Eleven days ago I bought and installed this 14000 BTU window unit air conditioner to replace a much smaller and and quite old perhaps 10 years LG 5000 BTU air conditioner that has worked well albeit noisily over the years. I will start with saying that I am very pleased with my new air conditioner. Ive been thinking of buying this unit since last summer. I use it to keep my master bedroom and bathroom at 68-70 degrees. I live in central Texas. Currently it is late March 2020 so it will be a couple more months before this air conditioner is challenged with the oppressive heat and humidity of a Texas summer. The air conditioner is very quiet. I am hardly aware it is running. It does a great job keeping the bedroom and bathroom cool. The combined floor space is about 450 square feet two exterior walls two windows and ~10 foot ceilings. The television is almost always running even at night. My wife and I and our dachshund occupy the room at night. I installed the air conditioner by myself except for asking my wife to assist me with lifting the air conditioner from the floor to a worktable I had set up indoors in front of the window where the air conditioner was to be installed. Installation was easy - a light weight cabinet is first secured to the window into which the rest of the air conditioner is inserted. The installation instructions were adequate although I recommend reading each step of the instructions very carefully multiple times to make certain you understand what needs to be done. Sort of a variation of the old adage Measure twice cut once. I think there is a misprint in the instructions on page 12 step 1 of Cabinet Installation. There is an instruction which I will quote: Carefully place the cabinet in the window and align the center hole on the cabinet bottom front with the bracket using a carriage bolt and a lock nut. The instruction makes sense about centering the cabinet in the window except there is no bracket carriage bolt and lock nut. Even if these items existed there is no place where they would be attached. I chose to ignore this area of confusion and continued to follow the Cabinet Installation instructions without any further issues. Of note because of the design of my window frame I used duct tape along the bottom of the cabinet to help seal the cabinet to the window frame and hopefully prevent air and moisture leaks and insect intrusion. I applied the duct tape before sliding the air conditioner into the cabinet. The duct tape cannot be seen. I tried connecting the air conditioner to my Wi-Fi. I downloaded to my iPhone the current app needed to interface with the air conditioner. The app recognizes that the air conditioner exists on my Wi-Fi network but the app will not connect to the air conditioner. To me this is a minor issue. The air conditioner has a remote control that works perfectly. The Wi-Fi connectivity would be cool but not worth worrying about. More of a gimmick than a useful feature. I definitely would recommend this air conditioner to a friend. Yes it is a little pricey but if it lasts 6-10 years I will be very happy.

Cools the room fast

Submitted by JRRC - 11/27/2019

The fact that this in an inverter unit makes it a winner. The noise level is low and the style is modern. I am considering changing two old non-inverter units for this model. The room feels comfortable in about 10 minutes. My favorite feature is the wi-fi connection. I control the unit from any location in my house. I recommend this unit to everyone.

NOTE: this is a repost of a review I wrote a few months ago. There used to be a couple of dozen writeups here but all of them disappeared. Grumble. Anyway: Traditional window units and most central ones have compressor the cooling part loops that are fully on/fully off with the cycling controlled by the thermostat. So if youve got say a 14000 BTU/hr on a hot summer day the compressor/cooling might be on for four minutes then off for 30 seconds then on/off again. Rinse lather repeat. Each time it turns on theres that kerchunk we all know and love. If its just a warm day then itll be on for 30 seconds before the shutoff. Inverter units adjust the output so if only 5000 BTUs are needed to keep the room cool the unit downshifts to 1/3rd the output. Much less cycling lower power draw while the cooling is running yes itll be a bigger percantage of the time but... more efficiently and in general much more civilized. Note that when I picked mine up _ONLY_ Home Depot had them and I had to travel to one way out of town to pick it up. This line of LG window units is brand new and hard to find. That should clear up one of these days. Anyway short version: This or the other size ones are the way to go for window a/cs.

A outstanding air conditioner

Submitted by Mister g - 10/13/2019

I purchased this air conditioner as a back up to use in my bedroom just Incase our central air conditioner went down so we had time to decide what we would do. The unit is quiet as many people have said I have to agree with most of the reviews about the wi-fi It drops out or just does not work Every thing made can always be made better in time ....and this air conditioner is no exception but for now its a great start and I would recommend this unit to anyone .

I have been using the LG Duel Inverter ac since June it is now October and Im pleased to say it is great My electric bill is much lower than with the old unit and it cools better. The noise isnt bad even when it is on full force it gradually powers on and you dont notice as much. I havent used the smart app part not really needed in my situation. I highly recommend.

Great Unit Terrible Packaging App is lacking

Submitted by HeliGuy - 8/23/2019

Installed in garage this week. Very very quiet and effective in our 700sq ft garage with vaulted ceiling. Packaging needs to be far more substantial as there is zero protection for the delicate fins on rear of unit mine arrived compressed in a softball size area along with multiple bends in the chassis frame... Its heavy and should be fully enclosed in heavy foam block. I would have returned it but I knew the next one would most likely arrive damaged as well considering the lack of protection. Please fix this LG it makes you look really bad.. I only recommend purchasing if you can pick up and inspect in a store. The app is easy to use but is missing and indicator for when the unit is actually running vs sitting idle one of the most important features needed to control power consumption and fine tune its operation. Nearly a deal breaker. I rate the unit 5 stars but the app 2.5. These wifi enabled units are for those who want to fully monitor and control their appliance from outside the home. Please address this LG and you will keep your customers. Ive already been burned by you guys on a poorly built $1000 computer monitor and a lack of support. I nearly chose another brand AC because of it. A local utility rebate kept me with LG.

Bought this unit after much research. The daul inverter compressor is everything no loud start ups no rattling windows and no loud noise in your ear. It honestly sounds just like a fan blowing and it cools the whole 700 SQ feet we needed it to. The is the best ac ....

its the one to get

Submitted by dannybofharlem - 7/30/2019

Ive been waiting for _years_ for an adjustable output/inverter window unit. LG came out with these last year.. So a month ago I bought one for use in my NYC apt. Note that NO ONE in the NYC area had it in stock and I had to drive it in from a Home Depot way out of state. The building installed it special double-pane thermal windows so they had to get glass specially cut. This would NOT be a problem in 95 pct of installation. It is physically smaller than the buildings standard Friedrich units so it took an extra couple of weeks for the glass etc. Review: its QUIETER and works great. The inverter deal means that... it ramps down and up the BTU rating as needed so much fewer compressor starts and stops. And also... theres no harrumph so to speak or window rattle when it does come on. This is super duper especially good when sleeping. The ramp down reduces the electrical demand - Ive watched my monitor range from 300 to 1400 watts. So.... theres NO worry about oversizing the unit. If youre anywhere near a 10000 requirement then get this one. One very very minor glitch: With traditional units of this size 14000 BTU if you left it off on a hot day and came inside from a 90 degree outdoor temperature you could make your way to the air conditioner turn it on and get a BLAST of refreshing cold air into your face. With these... the unit starts off with just the fan and a _low_ BTU setting and measures the various temperatures. So youll get a coolish breeze at the start but no BLAST. Every few seconds it sees it has to raise its rating so the BTU output goes up the air gets cooler etc. But again no BLAST. So aside from that very slight issue its great. Id give it a 95 out of 100....

I specially like the dual inverter feature. No water condensation coming out of the back of the AC because it is equipped with a slinger fan that picks up the excess water and sprays it to the condenser. Clean look design on the front. Quiet

Submitted by chrisknowles - 7/24/2019

i got this ac unit because my central unit couldnt keep up with the florida heat. house would be 83 during the day and the ac would never shut off. i have a less than a 1000 square foot home. after installing this unit. the house stays as cold as i set the lg unit temperature too. electric usage has went down also since the central air doesnt run constantly. i can control the unit from work if need too. love this ac unit.

Cool quiet tech

Submitted by TrinNY - 7/23/2019

I did quite a lot of research before deciding on the LG hoping that I was picking the right unit to replace my 10 year old noise maker. I picked the right one It looks good its wifi enabled a great feature needs 2.4 GHz network to setup my only complaint What makes it a great choice for me is the quiet background white noise thats all I hear. Its soo quiet maybe thats because Ive only used it on energy saver. Its all Ive needed even in a recent heat wave. 72 on energy saver kept the living room cool hallway and kitchen comfortable. My space isnt open concept. I really recommend this unit.

Great... at First

Submitted by Dezigndiva - 7/18/2019

Honestly I was very excited when we first purchased. We needed a unit large enough to cool much of our first floor. I loved the extended features and it seemed to do the trick... at first. Within a week or so the unit appeared to not drain properly and kept cutting off. Then we noticed that portions of it were beginning to rust. We had to return the unit.

Have been using for 5 weeks now in Houston. That means it has to deal with upper 90s temperatures and very high humidity. Amazingly it does the job. Its one year warranty puts me at ease that it will continue to keep cranking. My electric bill was great too
